STANDING TOGETHER --- Due to the amount of time our students and staff spend sitting throughout the day and the health risks associated with this, the challenge is to stand and learn for 5 minutes after 20 minutes of class time. Sit again for 20 minutes, then stand again! You are not tied to any specific week, all we request is that you stand for 2 x 5 minute intervals within each scheduled class for 1 week, anytime between 7th-30th September. Lecturers can also add some standing stretches and light movements if desired. It’s really up to you. As part of this challenge we ask that the lecturer photograph their class with the label, STANDING TOGETHER and send your images to dmdunne@wit.ie .Some information about interrupting sitting and health can be found at http://www.juststand.org/tabid/816/language/en-US/default.aspx MOVE IN MOTION --- we throw down the challenge to third level institutes to make a short video (less than 1 minute) of staff/ students being active. The range of activities can include any activity you like but we ask that you include slogans such as #beactive #moveweek in your video clips (printed on A4 sheets). We suggest you be as creative as possible and incorporate as much fun and energy as your students can manage! Suggested activities include walking, running, skipping, jumping, climbing, rolling, cycling, taking the stairs instead of lift, standing at your desk and playing sports, etc. The idea behind the video is to illustrate fun and different ways to be active. Videos can be uploaded to youtube, linked to your Third Level Institute website and submitted to dmdunne@wit.ie by Friday 25th September and all videos will be collated and submitted as part of MOVE week. For further information or help, please contact Jason King (illuminatestudio@gmail.com), Niamh Murphy (nmurphy@wit.ie), or Donna Dunne (dmdunne@wit.ie)
